If you're a family, cruising can be terrific fun for the kids. They can roam the ship to their heart's content and you know they'll be looked after. There are exciting and well thought out children's programmes to entertain them, leaving you free to seek your own entertainment or simply grab some peace and quiet. Meet new friends. There are ships that are almost exclusively British . . . or you could go for a cruise that's much more cosmopolitan. Be as adventurous as you like.
SOME EXCLUSIVE, ALL-INCLUSIVE
Contrary to common belief, cruises aren't expensive. Sure, there are some that really push the boat out, but as with hotels, you can tailor your holiday to your pocket. The wonderful thing is, absolutely everything is paid for up front.
The price includes air travel to and from the ship, often transatlantic flights. (Imagine one of those as a hidden extra!). It can also include connections from your local airport. Plus an overnight stay in a hotel prior to joining the cruise. But most importantly, the price you'll be quoted includes nearly everything on board. Accommodation, three meals a day, midnight buffets, daytime snacks, coffees and all the amenities and facilities on the ship -gyms, spas, the cinema, cabarets and shows.., in fact, with all your major expenditure taken care of, you just have to relax and take care of yourself.
Not only will you not run out of money, you certainly won't run out of things to do.
FROM QUIET SUN DECKS TO BOISTEROUS FUN DECKS
There's oceans of space and ample time to explore your own holiday island from the lounges to the loungers. Find yourself a tranquil corner and bury yourself in a book. No-one will disturb you but the steward with another drink! Splash out in the pool or in the casino. We give you all the variety you're looking for with absolutely no performance. There are excellent gyms and spas on most cruises. You can play tennis, shoot clays... even play golf (though lost balls usually stay lost!). There's shopping, videos, business lectures (for those who really have trouble letting go), bingo . . . and that's just during the day.
At night the ships offer a whole host of further attractions. Dinner can either be a formal affair or something a little more casual. On most cruises there'll be a couple of nights when you'll be asked to dress up to the nines. A chance for the ladies to break out the posh frocks and for the men to don DJs and bow ties (although a dark suit and tie is perfectly acceptable).
Mealtimes are a time for indulgence. The food and the atmosphere are truly superb. And if you're at all worried about over indulgence, there are always calorie controlled and low calorie options on the menu.
Apart from the formal nights, dress is casual but smart. Please, no shorts in the dining room !
After dinner why not try for a mint in the casino? (It's one gamble you won't mind taking with your cruise). Or take in a show . . . a classical concert . . . a cabaret . . or a quiz.
See the latest film at the cinema. Party till dawn at the nightclub or disco. Find a mellow piano bar, or a not so mellow one with karaoke Sinatras doing it their way. Or simply steer from the fun to the stars and stroll on deck as your hotel moves to its next holiday destination.
THE WONDER OF WANDERING
With a cruise you can enjoy a new holiday spot every day - without all the hassle of packing and unpacking. You can scuba, snorkel, try your hand at watersports, play a round of golf . . . even have a shot at white water rafting! Sightsee and enjoy colourful local markets. Eat out in the local restaurants and bars. Get a taste, then move on to somewhere else. (You can always come back for a longer stay if the taste was to your taste).
Gone are the days when the average cruise took three to four months. Today you can cruise for three or four days (as an add-on to a Florida or West Coast holiday, for instance), seven days or indeed, any time length over that. With something to do every hour of the day and night, a cruise is timeless in a way no other type of holiday can match. In fact, it can be several holidays in one.
